I’m Matt Peacocke, founder of Legato Landscape Architecture. After more than 17 years designing landscapes throughout New Zealand, I established Legato to offer a more personal, collaborative approach to landscape architecture.

As a qualified and Registered Landscape Architect with the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects Tuia Pito Ora, and a member of the Urban Design Forum and Recreation Aotearoa Te Whai Oranga, I’ve worked across a diverse range of projects, from private gardens and retirement villages to public parks, streetscapes, and large-scale masterplans. Today, I work directly with homeowners, developers, councils, and businesses, guiding projects from initial ideas through to implementation.

My goal is to make the design process clear, straightforward, and enjoyable, with practical advice, open communication, and thoughtful solutions at every stage. I believe the best landscapes are created through collaboration, careful listening, and a deep understanding of both people and place.
